Welcome to Vance’s Tournament Corner!
I know you’re all busy with the new Age of Ascension set but I just finally finished testing all my Call of the Archons decks! I decided it would be fun to have a tournament among all my decks and write it up so I could bring all of you along for the ride!
The Decks: I have 40 decks in my personal collection, obtained from a variety of sources. I’ve played each of them 10 times in the casual queue on the crucible and they’re all quite fun. I like decks that have a strong shtick, ie they know what they want to do and can do it fairly consistently. You’ll see a lot of decks with multiples of fun cards in my collection. During the 1st round of the tournament I’ll also spend some time discussing each deck, including why it appeals to me. And every round I’ll get my opponent’s thoughts on the decks too!
Match Format: Each match will be best 2 out of 3. For each match I’ll play against a friend and we’ll switch decks for the 2nd game. If one deck wins both games the deck wins the match. If one player wins both games (meaning each deck won once) I will play a 3rd game against myself and the deck that wins that game will win the match. For each game I will record total keys forged, each deck’s aember at the end, and what turn the game ended on and this information will be used for tiebreakers.
The first round will consist of 40 decks, so 20 matches. The Winning 20 decks and the top 4 (as determined by tiebreakers) losing decks will move on to the second round.
The second round will consists of 24 decks, so 12 matches. The Winning 10 decks and the top 2 losing decks will move on to the third round.
The third round will consist of 14 decks, so 7 matches. the Winning 7 decks and the top losing deck will move on to the fourth round.
The fourth round will consist of 8 decks and from here on out it’s single elimination until a victor is crowned.
Tiebreakers: Ties will be decided in the following order:
Wins (a deck that goes 1-2 beats out a deck that goes 0-2)
Total Keys forged
Aember total at time of game end
Turn the games ended on (a deck that played more turns beats out a deck that played fewer)
I hope to get at least a match or two written up every week and hope you’ll come along for the ride! I also love to play new people so if you’re interested hit me up on discord and maybe you can help me out!
Cheers in adVance!
